The Beta for the 3.0 version of a popular BitTorrent downloads client has been released from the uTorrent development team. This new version, called uTorrent 3.0, adds in ratings, comments, streaming and other new features in a bid to appeal to both novices and long time BitTorrent users.

The first version of the software quickly became the most widely used BitTorrent application following its release in 2005, and today close to 100 million users worldwide regularly use the client. One of the most anticipated new features in the Beta is the option to rate and comment on torrent files added to uTorrent. This was added in response to many requests from users in the past. Some fear that it will bloat the application and open the door for spammers, but a majority of users will likely appreciate the addition of comments as a useful feature to help them determine the quality of the file they're downloading.

Apple's most recent patch for OS X 10.6.7 included an update to Xprotect, the basic anti-virus component, that can help it to better detect malware like BitTorrent spyware. The company kept pretty quiet about this technology, and only adds identities to block when some piece of unwanted software is having an effect on many OS X users. The fact is that most spyware and malware infect a Mac by attaching themselves to something that you want, like a BitTorrent file or other downloadable content.

When you sign an End User License Agreement (EULA) for any of this content, these agreements often ask for permission to spy on your browsing habits, search behavior, online shopping and other private information. Of course, most people don't bother to read the EULA, and by clicking 'agree' they get spyware that cannot be uninstalled without a Mac guru. Xprotect still doesn't go far enough in protecting users from this software, because it only scans for malicious content in applications that use LSQuarantine.

The protocol of Bit Torrent Inc. is used by many people for the purpose of sharing and downloading films. Recently Bit Torrent has been accused of the copyright issues with a patent, which has allegedly been infringed from a San Francisco company.
Even the Bit Torrent Inc. that has its base in San Francisco has been accused of copying a patent numbered 7,301,944, which was issued by the U.S. Trademark Office in 2007. A company named Tranz-Send has suspected that Bit Torrent peer-to-peer file-sharing method infringes at least one claim of the patent. However, the Spokeswoman of Bit Torrent, Allison Wagda wrote in an e-mail that Bit Torrent had absolutely no opinion on the litigation.
The detaisl of the case are Tranz-Send Broadcasting Network Inc. v. BitTorrent Inc., 3:11-cv-02917-JCS, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California (San Francisco).
